John J. Kim, M.D.
Dr. John J. Kim is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He completed a post-baccalaureate pre-medicine program at the Columbia University and received his medical degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the Staten Island University Hospital and his residency in Ophthalmology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. Dr. Kim also completed a fellowship in cornea & refractive surgery at the prestigious Johns Hopkins College of Medicine-Wilmer Eye Institute.
Prior to joining the New York Eye Surgery Center, Dr. Kim served as the Director of Cornea, Refractive Surgery and Residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Medical Center. He has trained many ophthalmologist to perform “no-stitch” cataract surgeries and various other ophthalmic surgeries. Many of the ophthalmologists who have trained under Dr. Kim now serve as instructors at Yale Medical School, Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He continues to be active in resident physician education. He is currently a clinical assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and attending physician at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Kim is an active member of the following organizations; American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, New York State Ophthalmological Society and The Eye Bank for Sight Restoration where he serves on the Medical Advisory Board.
Dr. Kim has a busy practice and performs over 1000 cataract procedures per year. He performs and teachs refractive surgery (LASIK, LASEK, PRK & PTK). His areas of interest are complex cataract surgeries, corneal transplants (human and artificial cornea), and medical missions. He accepts most insurance coverage and will accept new patients.
